Darcy 8 Months

8 months old! This month is definitely been a month of playing with your voice. Lots of dada, which is probably the most common sound. But I hear a lot of b sounds and even some mama. We sure love to listen to you gab.

Sometimes you make the dada sound with your tongue sticking out of your mouth. It's particularly cute that way.
This might not come as a surprise but everything you do is particularly cute.
What else happened this month? Well, we went on a lot of hikes this month. That meant you spent a lot of time in the front carrier, which meant that you napped a lot in the front carrier. Thankfully this seems like no big deal to you. You are happy to come along for the ride.
I have gotten a little bit concerned because when we go on hikes you just don't nurse as well as when you nurse at home. Turns out that nursing in the van or on the trail has more distractions than just in my bedroom. Thankfully you still seem to be growing just fine.
We started you on your very first solid foods at the end of this month. I wanted to make sure you tasted at least some solid food before I took you to your next doctor's appointment. You started out with baby oatmeal mixed with breast milk. You also have had a few soft table foods, like cucumbers, tomatoes, noodles, etc. You're not a fan of any of these things. But perhaps you were slightly more interested in the cucumber or noodle or even more rare an occasional bite of oatmeal.
You still love rolling around, and pivoting to angle where you want to. You're an old pro at this now and don't hesitate to angle around.
You look so close to crawling. You get up on your hands and knees and rock back and forth. You look like you're just about to take off.
But then you discovered that you prefer playing while sitting up. This has definitely hampered your crawling progression. You like sitting up with a couple of pillows around you in case you tip over and playing with the toys at your lap. This is the preferred way to play.
Every once in a while you'll sit by yourself without pillows around you or the boppy, but that always seems a little risky because there's nothing that you hate more than getting your head bumped on something.
There was a big milestone this month! You cut your first tooth! I even know the exact day, March 3rd. It kind of messed up your naps that day, you didn't want to sleep for anything. But fortunately things settled back into place pretty quickly. Fingers crossed that quick recovery continues with the bigger more painful teeth.
You have a new favorite thing--bathtime! You get so excited if you hear the water start running. If you are in the bathroom and we are getting a bath ready for Holland you strain in all of your little baby ways to watch the water.
If the bath is for you, so love getting in the water. You kick and flail and are delighted by the water that splashes up on you. Only once have you rolled over in the bath and that was a less happy surprise for you. You don't like dipping your whole face in the water obviously.
The only bad part about bathtime is that you get your ears wet. You can't handle having your ears be wet. You pull, scratch, and dig at those poor damp ears despite our best efforts to dry them.
I hope you don't have any kind of ear infection. But you don't have any other signs of it, so I haven't taken you in to see the doctor.

You have all kinds of things as toys, but especially cords. You definitely have to keep an eye out for you making your way to them.
You love rattles and things you can poke at and wiggle. One thing you don't love is stuffed animals. You're just not that interested in them. Maybe the tags a little bit, but that's it. Unless of course, someone is playing with you with them.
I think it's the cutest thing how much you like being read to. You're so patient with it--it's amazing!

This is what happens when you scoot over to the hard floor. And it's really easy to slide around and really make some distance. Somehow you manage to slide back behind the recliner and turn around before I got to you. You also fit through the tiniest little spaces, which is amazing considering you're going backwards through them. Like in this instance you fit through the gap between the piano bench and the recliner. You threaded the needle!

These were perhaps your favorite toy this month, the strings on Daddy's hoodie. Sometimes he texts them in his collar, but apparently you're starting object permanence because you keep reaching for his collar without even really looking at them.

This was such a fun day there was a helium balloon that had a normal balloon tied to the bottom of it. I guess they had the perfect amount of force so that it just hovered without going up or down. Your sisters loved giving you the hanging balloon to play with.

It's so cute that you play with things with your hands and your feet.

We tried out Ellie's birthday fire pit and made s'mores. Your forehead shows the hazard of being in a front pack with Mommy eating something messy. Don't worry I licked at the marshmallow off you.

Your sister's just love holding you any chance they can.

Even though I told you you don't really like stuffed animals, we can't help but give them to you.

Hanging out in the van after a hike. I love that cute hat on you. And it keeps your poor naked head warm.

Your red jammies and your hair sticking up is somewhat reminiscent of a rooster. The cutest rooster I've ever seen.

Oh dear! You sure like backing up and getting your legs stuck under things.

Fortunately you're not too worried about it. You'll just rest on the floor if you get tired.

Trying to get a good look at those eyes. I think they might be turning brown?

Such cute jammies. And you love that little Noah's ark / puppet book.
Oh so cute! This is the little knotted gown in which we took pictures of you when you were a newborn. But now the little cap finally fits you.

I love how the tight little cap makes your chubby cheeks stand out. They're so kissable!

I couldn't help but take a ton of these photos. So here's a little collage.

Here's another little impromptu photo shoot. Prettiest baby.

Such a good sitter upper.

There's that tongue. It sure likes to be involved when you smile. It gets twisted all over.

It's starting to get warmer, which means a little romper instead of fleece jammies.

Oh Daddy is still lucky one who you'll cuddle more often.

Selfie in the van after a hike.

Aw! You fell asleep on me after a morning nursing session. I just sat there and relished cuddling you for about 30 minutes until you woke up again. Pure heaven.

Starting solid food! How's that cucumber? You'll love them before you know it.
