Holland's 6th Birthday

Oh this sweet angel! We love her more than words. She is a beacon of sunshine and rainbows in our lives. She is enthusiastic, happy, feisty, stubborn, loving, hilarious, adorable, kind, generous, loyal, and imaginative.
Holland has been such a fun five year old! I think maybe it was because of online Kindergarten, she has stayed a little more innocent and naive than the other girls at this age. (Not that Eliza and Miriam were fluent with the ways of the world, but it just seems like Holland was a little more sheltered.)

Holland kept us laughing all year with the hilarious things that would come out of her mouth. I kept a running list and now can record them in our family history. Here goes:

I wish you could sing as well as me. (To Daddy after bedtime songs. She literally has the art perfected of the subtle burn!)

Case in point: "I love you guys so much. I love you and everyone the same."

Other things are just funny: "Daddy I have a great idea for you for father's day. A gun that can kill birds."

"My name is Love so that means I get everything that I want." (If only it were that easy, kiddo!)
When Darcy was a newborn Holland laid down by her, gazed adoringly at the tiny baby  and threw out, "I know what the baby's thinking. She wants to kill me." What??? Where does she get this stuff?!

Some of these quotes paint a pretty grim picture of cute Holland but it is only funny because 99.99% of the time she is so sweet and kind that it seriously cracks us up when these random alarming things come out of her mouth. "When I cry my heart tells me to hurt people." OKkkaaayyy. They are also good opportunities for a good heart to heart about appropriate behavior and self control.
This was a momentous time for Holland, getting a new baby sister shortly after she turn five. As you can imagine, Holland loved, loved the new baby. One day she even asked me, "Can I kiss the baby's bum?" Not a good idea, sweetie.

This one really cracked us up and has introduced a new Pearson family phrase. One day I was sterilizing the quartz counters with rubbing alcohol when Holland walked in to the kitchen, made a face, pinched her nose and announced. "I smell rubbing wine!" Rubbing alcohol is now and forever rubbing wine.

"Hey Mommy, guess what? I daydreamed for the first time!"

"I wish there were no bad guys in heaven." I have got some good news for you...

"Once in my imagination, I ate a stuffed earthworm."
"Most of my books aren't child appropriate." Uh....that's a problem.

"Guess what? If I don't eat the proper amount of salad, I get sick." Me too! I get sick of eating food without enough salad!

"I won't name my children long names. I will name them short names so people can spell them."

"(Daddy's) knees look like carrots." That's a bit harsh.

To Daddy: "Tell the truth about pickles." Surely he had to be joking when he said he didn't like that delicious food!

"I work really hard for what I need and make." Sure. :)

"That's what babies are for, to be loved." Amen and amen.

"Whoever gets down the fastest wins the rotten egg!"

"I think the baby knows that Daddy is her prince." Definitely.

Daddy: Holland, what do you want to be when you grow up? Holland: Hmm. Probably a warrior.

"Daddy is impressive." (After he threw a chocolate chip in the air and caught it in his mouth.)

"I don't like the letter c. Because this word starts with it: charanchula." This one is so funny and cute to me.

To her class during roll: "Sometimes when I take a bath I am clothes less."

"When I grow up I want to be in the military. I will only have one child who is adopted so I can leave them to go on long trips to help people."

"I discovered that the baby has a throat. She's not a boy." (Because of the Adams apple.)

"Mommy you have been mean to me ever since I've been born!" Okay, that would be hurtful if it wasn't so ridiculous.

"Putting boots on Barbies is the hardest thing in my life. It's just their legs don't bend! I'm thankful for my knees."

"I can't live like this." (After being asked to pick up two toys)

"I can't live my whole life just obeying you." Oh the drama. I hope it mainly continues to be funny, but I am nervous about her teenage years.

"I believe in everything you don't believe in. I believe in fairies, unicorns...."

"Jesus loves all his children. In fact, he loves everyone. Even the people who go to space in rocket ships."

"That dinosaur's eyes is the opposite of horizontal." She's so smart!

"I can feel Darcy's foot beat."

"When I grow up after I am a book author then I will be a warrior."

"Mommy, my life is not like your life." Said in the most dramatic, picked on voice possible. This girl has got it rough!

"Mommy I finally figured out what I was born to be...a pirate! (Later) I changed my mind, I was born to be an artist!"

"Do you know what I most wish for? It's a pretty big secret, but I can tell you. ... For the house to lift into the air!"

"Judas betrayed him with a smooch."

"Grandfather" (calling my dad that when he came for Christmas)

"Mommy, I want to get some cotton candy in my tummy."

"I know what to do on our turn... Destruction!"

"H: Daddy,I just love you. I couldn't have survived without you. Do you know why I love you? D: why? H: because you're my Daddy. Isn't that a good reason? D: I just love you too. Because you're my little girl. H: I'm your little munchkin."

"Do you know when I go to sleep in the night? Right before morning!"

"My mommy is allergic to coronavirus." Oh the things she'd announce to her kindergarten friends over zoom.

Like this: "Wait, did your mom die?" (When her classmate mentioned her stepmom.)

But then she offers true words of wisdom: "Daddy is wrong until Mommy fixes his words." :)

"Ugh, my mouth is bare. It is waterless."

"I am not sad. My eyes are just full of watering."

About Valentine's dinner: "It's incredible good! Are you kidding me??"

About Ellie's birthday breakfast (creme brulee french toast): "I like the bottom and the top... And the middle!"

"My chopping power is my best superpower. With it I can chop people's heads off." Oh dear.

"Mommy, you're young for an adult. Like I feel your hair is still colored."

"Mommy, would you rather go on a tour with me or go on a mommy daughter date?" (She kept using the word tour but meant trip.)

"Ellie is a beginner at being an adult."

Whispered in my ear: "I will love you forever for so many reasons."

"Darcy is a pornaduthe, that means she is the cutest little baby who will be a child soon." Oh geez. :)

"Mommy, you are kind and loving and powerful." This was one of my favorites!

Holland went through a phase when she ended sentences with "baybay." It was so funny.

"Do you know how much I love you? I love you to the highest number 123,123. To the moon and back and to Mars and back."
"One of my powers is that I can remember my past life. My life in the past."

When told she couldn't watch a video after school Holland said, "but Mommy that is ruining my life... No, my relationships!!"

"Last one there is a sore los
er."

"Mommy, you are going to be unbelieved!" (In reference to how surprised I was going be about how far she had gotten on her math page.)

"Do you know what I need right now? Comfort."

When the missionaries were giving a service lesson over zoom Holland interrupted them and said "I have a question for you that you can think about or answer out loud. How can YOU serve other people?"

"Is this how you spell 19 in English?" (Used numbers)

"Just close your eyes for one more hour." She wanted me to close my eyes while she got something ready to show me.

"The three of us should go into the living room and rejoice!" (About winning skull king)

"Mommy doesn't have to wear swimsuit just a normal swimsuit not her party suit." (Meant birthday suit)

"I don't like Mr. Snape" We have been listening to a couple of Harry Potter books with the older girls on the long car drives. Holland zones out for most of it, but randomly interjected with that comment.

"I love this horse. It's faithful." (Plastic horse at the rental)

"No, not a regular hug, let's do a running hug!"

"Spiders are my enemy." Same.

"I want to play the constructioners." (Carpenters) Basically the same thing.

"Want to hear my rhyme? 1 2 I love you. 3 4 I love you more. 5 6 in a ditch. 7 8 on a date. 9 10 let's count again!"

Holland: I just have a question. How do you know what time it is when you don't have a clock in your house? Daddy: well your mommy and daddy could help you. Holland: but I don't have a mommy and daddy. Daddy: Yes you do it's me. Holland: I mean when I'm grown up and living in it my own house and you are dead.

Holland talking about how I said we're her parents. "That's not a fact, that's your opinion!" Oh that girl can pull out the drama.

It's finally her big day! She has been telling her teacher all year that her birthday is May 13th, and it actually came! What a cutie doing online school!

Wearing the crown Ms. Dunker dropped off for her for the special day.
Birthday sign plus dress up glasses. :)

Oh I love this girl! What a joy she is! Reading through those quotes, clearly she can bring out the drama, but honestly she is so dang sweet and adorable most of the time it all just works out.

During this last year Holland has gone through quite a few changes: waking up early to go to online Kindergarten. Learning how to do Kindergarten even though she isn't in the same room as her teacher! Nearly losing an eye on a ceiling fan! Getting a baby sister that she adores. Having her best friend move away. Staying pretty much confined to just our family because of a pandemic. Learning to read better and better all the time: that girl can read anything that she wants to no matter how long! Learning to ride her bike and hike all over the desert. When I write it all up like this it really sounds like a lot for a 5 year old. She really is amazing.

I always try do a little something different with the birthday decorations each time. This time I added a balloon blowing machine and a balloon stand. I like it! John probably thinks I'm nuts.
For her birthday dinner she wanted grilled chicken, breadsticks, and salad. She didn't care about what kind of grilled chicken, but when we looked through the recipes she picked sweet and sour chicken because it is delicious.

Present time!

When they are all laid out like that it seems excessive, but I swear I don't give them much compared to most people.

Heavy, heavy hang over thy poor head,
What do you wish this person with a bump on your head?

Where did that birthday ritual come from??

Maybe her favorite present of the night: a rainbow sparkle dress!

Darcy really loved the present from Miriam--a ball!

Dress, shoes, playdoh, Frozen activity book, watercolors, brushes, Legos, birthday chocolates. Not too much, right??

Our last gelato cake with 6 candles! Sweet happy girl!

Summer crown craft from school.

Holland made us all surprise presents. I thought the work she put into the cards was really sweet.

Dea Dady I love LOVE you! Here is your prezent! H!

Holland told me she wrote down her testimony: "I beleev in something that I can not see."

Epic bed head

Her hair is getting so long!

Doing Daddy's hair so fancy. So funny!

A drawing for Daddy at bedtime: "You have my heart!"

She loved her hair this day. Pretty pony tail with bow. I love her sweet curls.

I don't remember how this happened, but that is a vicious bump on her head.

Stoopeneds mom

Birthday Legos from Uncle Daniel.

Meeting her Kindergarten teacher at the end of the school year.

I found this popsicle stick. So funny! So alarming! Turns out she told John that it is code. Holland means Holland. Is means is. Murder means good. Oookay....

I love her concentrate face!

At Holland's 6 year well check, she weighed 37.4 lbs which is the 9%. She was 42.75" tall which is 10%.

I love you sweet Holland! You are a joy! We are so grateful you are in our family!
