The football game

We didn't buy all-sport passes this year. Mostly this is because of our parents. John and I were both raised to not spend money on non essentials when we really should be saving it. I don't think that either of us are as good as our parents are at this, but still we have some of that in our blood. Therefore, even though we both really enjoy going to games (especially football and basketball games), for the second year in a row we didn't get all-sport passes. However, we decided that we would go to at least one game this year and just buy regular tickets. This actually turned out to be more of an ordeal than we thought it would be. When John went to buy tickets for a game (we weren't sure which game we could get tickets for) he found out that the New Mexico game was the only game that wasn't sold out. Not only that, but there were five tickets left in the whole stadium. He bought four of those for the two of us and his cousin Glenn and Glenn's wife Andrea.

The weather forecast for the game didn't look so great. We were told that it would probably rain and possibly snow. So, we really bundled up for the game. It didn't end up raining or snowing thankfully, but the wind did get pretty chilly.

It was a fun game, even though I couldn't believe it when New Mexico scored first!! BYU came back strong and the second half we particularly dominated. I felt a little bad for New Mexico at the end of the game when the last three plays resulted in BYU sacking their QB three times.

Maybe it is a sign of my impending motherhood, but I was probably just as entertained by the little boy next to us as by the game. He was bundled up a snow suit, complete with gloves, boots, hat, and scarves. I say scarves because there were several. I wish I had gotten a picture of him. He couldn't hardly move (picture the boy on the movie A Christmas Story).

His mother kept trying to keep him happy by showing him the helicopter and the band. The problem was that he couldn't turn his head any direction except forward. The only thing that really kept him entertained was trying to eat some treats she had for him. He had to work really hard to get the food to his mouth. Poor kid. It was a lesson on when to get a babysitter for John and me.

Afterwards, we decided to go to Cafe Rio. We had a free meal coupon. The only problem was that the post game traffic was not so neat. I found myself getting unreasonably frustrated at the cars that would zoom ahead in the other lane and then have to merge back in a block later. Whew, I am getting a little angry just writing about it. :) We eventually made it and thoroughly enjoyed our steak and chicken salads.

Special mention to my husband for his awesome expressions in these pictures. :)

The baby is a GIRL!!!

Yesterday we went to have our 20 week ultrasound. We were really excited about it and had a hard time focusing on work and school in the morning. Even when we went in there and it was apparent that the technician was having a bad day, we just wanted to see our little baby. About 3 seconds into the ultrasound the technician announced that it was a girl. All I could say was, "Really?" I don't know why that is surprising to me. Obviously the baby could have been either it is just that the last few babies on both sides of the family are girls: James Katherine, Hannah, Heather, Lindsey, and Anna (all five girls were born in the course of 7 months). We just thought that the odds were that we would have a boy. However, we are so excited about our little girl. We are just trying to refer to the baby as a 'she' now rather than an 'it.' If our little nieces are any indication, our little one will be a cutie! Now we just have to try to think of names! We had three ideas for boy's names, but none for a girl. If anyone would like to suggest a name, please do. :)
