Three Years Old

Miriam turned three!!! My baby is three now. I can't believe it. She turned three the day after we came back from Utah. However because we were just coming off of a big trip I decided to have us celebrate us two days later. I didn't want to even tell Miriam it was her birthday. It was kind of sad to pretend it wasn't her birthday, especially when Eliza asked at one point during the afternoon, "Isn't it Miriam's birthday today?" But because we postponed it two days I felt like I was able to make it a lot more magical for her. I made the cupcakes the night before, and we hung up a banner and balloons everywhere. We took her swimming at a community pool where they had swimming lessons, but we were able to swim at the kid play area. So fun! We also had a special breakfast and used some new china that my parents gave us. We went the craft store and picked out some edible pearls to help decorate her cupcakes with. Then she had presents. She got a puzzle and book from us. Eliza gave her two presents that she bought with her gift card money--a necklace and bracelet and a paint set. We gave her a puzzle, a book, a and toy broom. Gotta love the birthdays when there isn't any expectations about the money spent on the presents.

Miriam is such a sweet girl! I feel like she already acts so much older since her birthday. She tries to explain things more and makes up stories all the time. She definitely confuses that anything that happened in the past she says happened last night. :) Same thing goes for tomorrow. She likes to tell stories that go something like this, "Mommy, remember last night when we flew our car into the sky?" Eliza likes to argue that we didn't actually do that, but I just kind of go with it. :) Miriam really likes church and asks to go all of the time. She weighs about 28 lbs and is about 37 inches tall. Miriam loves baby dolls and loves to playing being a baby with Ellie. She is really good at coloring and traces letters and number really well. She knows all of the letters and almost all of the letter sounds. In preschool we are working on tracing, letter sounds and combinations, and counting.

Miriam is such a girly girl. She loves dressing up, picking out and changing her clothes, painting nails, play make-up, and getting her hair done. She especially loves the curls in her hair. She has an infectious giggle and is just delightful. She loves doing tricks and being tickled. She likes to play games with the family. She loves going swimming and recently decided she can go under the water. She does it all the time now. She also loves jumping in the water.

Miriam loves being with her big sister and playing games with her. She loves princesses and building towers and anything that Ellie does. She has the sweetest little voice and loves to sing with Ellie, lead the music, and sometimes if we are lucky even dance. She likes to say prayers a lot.  She has also decided she loves puzzles. I don't know if it is just a phase or what, but it is definitely her activity of choice right now. She can do a 48 piece puzzle with little or no help. She is such a big girl. We just love Miriam and are so lucky to have her in our family.

What a girl!

Eliza entered an art contest for John's work and won an honorable mention award. I thought this was kind of funny because she colored it in a very unusual manner than she normally does. Very geometric and bright polar bears. That is probably why it stood out. :) Her prize money was $15 to Target. Her very first thought was to buy a Father's Day present for John and a birthday present for her sister. What a little sweetheart! She used almost all of the gift card purchasing those presents and only bought one little thing for herself. Love her!

Father's Day 2014

We are so lucky to have John be the father of this little family. Our girls just adore him, with good reason.

He is so fun! (and makes pretty good faces too!)

I am pretty sure the girls wish that he were the stay-at-home parent.

The girls made this sign and cards for him. What sweethearts!

Like father like daughter. :)
