Okay, so here's the thing. I don't really like Halloween. Neither does John. There are creepy decorations and people act creepy and weird. Also, I don't love most Halloween candy. I am getting a little pickier about candy as I get older, and it needs to have dark chocolate in it to seem worth eating to me.
Nonetheless, every holiday is more fun with kids. So seeing cute dress ups and doing a couple of fun activities is enjoyable.
Like this slime making activity. The white slime glowed in the dark. The blue slime was just colored. It was pretty fun!
We took a surprising amount of delight decorating pumpkins this year--we mainly just like Christmas. :)
These pictures are all out of order. They were taken on mine and John's phones, so they got uploaded in two batches. Oh well. Our October Lake Powell trip this year was great. We camped in Hall's Creek and had this whole alcove to ourselves. We love Octobers at Lake Powell. At one corner of our alcove was a big boulder type mountain that had a small cave we could boat into. Super fun.
Holly loved the boat and still talks about it in her disjointed way. She still mainly just says nouns and verbs and adjectives. No real sentences yet.
We slept on the houseboat this trip because the first night in the campground at Hall's Crossing, we absolutely froze. We brought Holland in the sleeping bag with us that first night to help her stay warm, which meant we just didn't have a good night's rest at all. Fortunately there was space on the houseboat where it was warm. We did notice that all of the gnats that liked to come in the houseboat were less fun though. As was the night that Miriam threw up on the this bed. In this picture though, she had fallen asleep while we were reading scriptures.
One afternoon we took a little hike in Hall's Creek to try to find a natural bridge. Most of us didn't see it, but a few went a little further and saw it across the canyon. We didn't realize that we could have found it easier on the other side.
Miriam here: We were going to the hike that we just talked about. It was super fun. I didn't get to see bridge though. When we came back something bad had happened. The house boat had blown to the side. And some men had to fix it, I think.
Miriam again: We went on a hike, just our little family. Not any of our cousins. Just us. The hike was about 1 or 2 miles. Between those. It was super fun. We went up a crack. It was really easy. I was one of the bravest to go up the hard crack. I needed a little help. It was super fun and dangerous.
Miriam again: We ate some chips up in the crack. Holland loved them. We went up a slot canyon. I could go up to this border.
Miriam again: It was super duper cuper fun. We lost Holland's shoe on the hike. She dropped it. It was one of her favorite shoes. She loved it so much that she weared it everyday. We had to retrace our steps, and we found it! In the other picture, Holland was throwing rocks. She likes to do that.
Miriam again: We hiked a little on the first picture. In the second picture Daddy took Holland in the slot canyon. While he was doing that we were on boat with Uncle David.
Mommy here. Grandma held Holland while she napped. It was so sweet. So one day our family split up. John kept Holland at camp, and I took the big girls on the boat. We went to Annie's Canyon. It is a great one. Love these fun little girls.
Grandma came too and was super bundled up.
So beautiful! I love these girls. Eliza accidentally fell in the lake so she is wearing Uncle Davids big shirt and Jane's coat underneath, I think.
Miriam again: I liked Annie's Canyon a lot. We were in an alcove.
Uncle David was super fun and let each of the giggly girls take a turn driving the boat on the way out of that alcove. Grandma Lucas wasn't very amused.
On another branch of the canyon we hiked up a little.
Their arms are so expressive.
See what I mean?
It was so pretty.
Miriam again: I liked the canyon. See in the second picture. There is a little crevice thing. I got in that crevice. I was the only one.
Mommy again: It was harder than you'd think. The boat had to be in just the right placement to make it happen. It took maybe six tries. Then we drove around to take a picture of her.
This is when they were fixing the houseboat after it got blown sideways. It is very reminiscent of a picture of my grandpa and dad.
We didn't want 92 year old Grandma to get cold. The girls loved sand sliding in Lake Canyon.
I love these pictures of Holly and the boys. They were so fun.
Miriam again: I wasn't on that boat at the time, but I was on the other boat with Lizzy. We had a lot of fun. Lizzy got a turn to drive.
Cute girlies. Pretty sunrise on the sandstone.
Here is a close up of Miriam in the crevice. Probably not the most responsible parenting moment...
