So back in May we went to a museum down in Tuscon, called the Sonoran Desert Museum. We heard about this museum on Tripadvisor where this museum was rated NINTH in the world! It rated higher than the Lourve and the Smithsonian, etc. Now that I have been I have to say that I disagree. For what it was (a desert museum) it was amazing! Half gardens/half zoo it was really fun to go through the different exhibits. But when you are comparing in to The Lourve...there is really no comparison. But seriously for what it was, I don't know how it could possibly be better!

One of the highlights was seeing a baby big horn sheep that was only 8 hours old. It was so cute to see it try to walk around and follow its mother. So sweet. The girls were enchanted. |
 |
It was fun to see all of the different animals. We didn't actually see any turtles, but it was fun to play on the display! |
 |
There was a fun underwater section, where the kids were allowed to touch some of the sea creatures. I particularly liked seeing the real seahorses. There was some weirdly fun underwater snakes too. |
 |
Our favorite part was going inside the hummingbird enclosure. There were so many hummingbirds all around us. |
 |
Can you see how close this hummingbird is to Eliza's finger? So fun! |
 |
The best part! Holding out the honeysuckle blossoms and having the hummingbirds fly out to get some nectar from our hands. Almost all of us were able to do this! So, so cool! |
 |
I definitely have seen more hummingbirds now that we live in Arizona than I have ever seen in my life. There is a big tree out our front window, and often there are hummingbirds flying around it. We really enjoy it! It is nice to find beauty in these initially unappealing surroundings! |
 |
Ellie and Grandma were so tuckered out after our long day. They fell asleep holding hands on the way home from the museum. So sweet! |
From my journal:
Okay it is hot now. It has been 108 degrees pretty
regularly. It really hasn't been so bad until yesterday when we did some
errands in the afternoon. Normally I am just inside during the afternoon, but
we had to be out and about yesterday. Combine that with being grumpy about
having to get the cars repaired made me feel less tolerant of the heat
yesterday.
The month of May really flew by. It seems like we were busy
then my mom came during which we were really busy, then we tried to get back in
the schedule, which is where we are now.
While my mom was here we visited the Desert Museum down in
Tucson. It was really neat. A couple of highlights were seeing a newly born
mountain goat (only a couple of hours old!), and seeing the hummingbird exhibit.
They even ate from the honeysuckle flowers that we were holding in our hands.
It was thrilling.
